All that is known about the Great Mentallo’s real identity is that his name is Von Zauber and he has implied that he grew up in Vienna. Already an accomplished stage magician before the Year of Wonders, Mentallo now combines extraordinary powers of illusion with a flair for devious planning. Although allied with Jack’s and Estelle’s enemies, either conscience or pragmatism causes him to balk at crimes like murder.
