Gerard Sime

Jack’s steadfast friend from the day he joined the regiment, despite their different backgrounds and temperaments. Gerard is pretty much Jack’s opposite: aristocratic, easy-going, hardly a deep thinker. His approach to life shows in his every action – he might “glance at a book”, “pick at some food”, “drape himself in a chair” – but never read, or eat, or sit. When Gerard cares about something deeply (and he does care about many things) he masks his feelings with a show of indifference. But he’s very likable and is the friend that Jack can always rely on.
